Well to make a long story short, raver since 1990, DJ since 1995 and producer since 2010. But that’s maybe too short? I have been listening to all kind of music during the 70 and the 80 (soul, funk, chanson française, disco, new-cold wave, EBM, dub, reggae, electronic …) but hence my age, I wasn’t really interested in digging further than the song’s title or the artist’s name. The first record I owned was “Kraftwerk – Radio-Activity” (not bad for a beginning) but the first record I bought was “Baltimora – Tarzan Boy” (not really proud of it).
I started to be more interested in music around the mid 80, when lots of new style popped around the world and intrigued me. I mean hip-hop, house, techno, acid and the Belgian’s very own New-Beat. But at that time, it was still too underground music for me, I was too young to go out to clubs and there was no internet (at least like we know it today), only the radio and the K7 recorder (and MTV Party Zone later).
I started to buy music in 1990, when I found some records shops (of course), I was mainly interested in breakbeat driven records (XL, SUAD, Reinforced, RHC …), which lead me to UK Hardcore then jungle then d&b then …
The fact that I had a quite interesting collection for a Belgian guy, made me to play at parties in 1995. Although I must admit I didn’t had the skills for, till then I never really thought to be a DJ, but at that time, people were more interested in the music than in technique, fortunately for me. After several years of practice, and improvement of course, I founded the Hydra crew in 2001, with Saïko and Lotus. We organized together some of the best parties I ever attended. Other memorable moments were being one of the promoters for Therapy Sessions Belgium or the organization of the Nuit Blanche, 4 years in row.
Now, I’m more interested in promoting and working with Independenza Records and Evil Beats, and also, I’m more seriously working on producing music, after 10 years latency.
