The combo includes percussionist and creative leader, Texas music veteran Chris Dirkx, and also features guitarist and band director Kim Simpson; both of them instrumental virtuosi who play an eclectic blend of world soul music, to a multitude of rhythms and beats. Guests include Paul Klemperer: sax and clarinet, Kevin Taylor: bass, Chris Alcaraz: bass, David Perales: violin and Brad Houser: sax.
Chris Dirkx: drums, percussion, vocals, producer and creative director. Chris is a Texas music veteran with over 3 decades of professional touring, recording and musical studies. He comes from a long line of family musicians. He has played a diverse variety of styles such as rock, blues, soul, funk, R&B, reggae, ska, country, jazz, pop, surf, punk, latin, and traditional European and Middle Eastern folk. Chris has recorded on 9 albums, and dozens of sessions, and has toured the USA, Canada and abroad. He has shared bills with artists such as The B52s, Bob Welch, John Cale, REM, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steel Pulse and The Ventures. Notable Texas bands include MC 900 Foot Jesus, The Telefones (2-time Buddy Award winners), The Enablers, and Bobby Soxx and the Teenage Queers.
Kim Simpson: guitar and vocals. Kim is a musical adventurer who specializes in the simple combination of guitar and voice to express his own musical compositions and to interpret the music around him. He has released several collections of original songs acclaimed by the Austin Chronicle, Music City Texas, Dirty Linen, among others. He draws from an enormous multilingual repertoire and can turn heads with his skills as a solo instrumentalist (his latest release is an EP called Tex Mex Guitar, which features fingerstyle guitar renditions of conjunto accordion songs). Kim performs regularly in the vivacious music scene of Austin, Texas, both solo and as an avid collaborator. He maintains a steady recording habit and has also kept busy as a radio host on KOOP ("Around the Sounds" and "The International Folk Bazaar") and KUTX ("Folkways").
