2x Faults - REMEX - Update! by remex published on 2011/10/24 22:08:12 +0000 UPDate 9th dec 2011!!! - some minor adjustments and fixes... something to mark my entry to barcelona and to give out a shout that i'm still around!. a slightly altered and pro-longed version of the original track.. some more arrangements etc also made. still under construction and pointers and suggestions are more than welcomed! OK I got some things to improve still.. (there always are...) CM Mag 179: "Another great dub track! This one has the opposite problem to Bohemian Grave's tune though: The bassline is just about audible on small speakers but it lacks big sub weight. The main bassline doesn't quite have the higher harmonics to nose through, while the packed midrange features good gritty horns and a dirty, hard clav-type line with an envelope filter that is just crying out for a really deep sub layer. Some sub-bass work would bring 2x faults up several levels. We love the beat and the tone of the skanking piano & horns: they're dirty & edgy, and as a result the track has bunker loads of attitude.. The horn samples have a strong small studio room ambience to them, and the arrangement builds with some interesting interplay between the samples and glitching beats. The combination of the modern drum programming & old-style dub playing and vocal samples make this track a rare success for programmed dub. In the mix everything is a bit heavy on the 2kHz presence range, which makes it a bit cluttered at times. EQing some of the beat FX to different bands and varying the distortions might help its cause."
