this was the final song to be completed for Interpret the Results, and one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. The name is derived from gold and blue’s current AOL screen name, however – that’s the only tie to her, and only to bring the story of the record full circle, and to current day. This song was written and produced very quickly in 2008, thinking about someone I’d gotten so dangerously close to, when I wasn’t supposed to. I had everyone involved with a triangle I’d dangerously, selfishly, and heartlessly involved myself in. This song is the byproduct of long nights laying awake thinking about the one I had to let go, and how she made me feel. She blew gold and blue out of the water, and she was my soul mate and I knew it. The timing was awful, and attachment is a bitter thing sometimes. I had to cast her out of my life, and I was making ugly mistakes, and treating everyone terribly. This somber melody came out of the depression and the ugliness that the spell of beauty and perfection cast on me. The very name of the song is a duality – Visage Merdique, while beautiful to say, and pronounce, and even to listen to, in actuality means – “shitface”. The interesting thing about it – and about those times is, how can something that sounds so beautiful be so ugly? I wrote this song, and produced it in about 2.5 days, thinking about my soul mate, and the one I’d found, hurt, and was forced to throw away. This song is a love letter to her, and how she made me feel, and was only 1 step back to her direction, where I eventually ended up. Every time I listen to this song, and perform it live, I think about her. Every part of who she is embodies the different elements of this composition.
