Ramachandra Borcar Ramachandra Borcar Montreal / Los Angeles The son of an Indian father and Danish mother, Ramachandra Borcar was raised in the multi-cultural metropolis of Montreal. His singular upbringing and unconventional musical past have helped shape Ram’s distinct musical voice and infused his award-winning scores. Having composed for over 100 television episodes and 30+ feature films, documentaries and animated shorts, as well as a AAA videogame (Far Cry 4), Ram’s musical multiverse glides effortlessly between modern orchestral writing, haunting post-rock soundscapes, lyrical melodies and modular synth textures. Ram’s creative flexibility is fueled by an insatiable curiosity and he finds endless inspiration from his vast record collection of over 15,000 LPs. Spanning every genre and era imaginable, this rare ‘sonic library’ gives Ram unparalleled insight into musical styles, techniques and expressions. His vinyl collection served him well as an internationally touring DJ – performing alongside artists like Andy Smith (Portishead), The Chemical Brothers, Stereolab and Femi Kuti. As a teenager Ram gained notoriety in Montreal’s underground music scene as the drummer for experimental punk / speed metal band Hazy Azure, opening for legendary acts like D.R.I and Nomeansno. His love for unconventional music led to a wide range of creative projects, albums and collaborations with artists from around the world, including metal icons Voivod and Metallica’s Jason Newsted. Always looking to expand his craft, Ram learned classical percussion and jazz vibraphone in college and studied composition, orchestration and electro-acoustic music in McGill University’s prestigious music program. The sum of his experiences and influences have established Ram as one of the few poly-stylistic composers in the industry today. His studio space is a menagerie of rare synths, exotic instruments and unusual equipment that contribute to his distinctive approach to scoring. With each project Ram builds a new sonic universe, adding ever more colors to his vibrant musical palette. Ramachandra Borcar’s tracks The Melt Goes On Forever: The Art & Times of David Hammons ft.
