David Rainer
Atlanta
At the age of 4, RAINERR approached his mother and told her he wanted to be a singer and songwriter. Little did he know the dream he had as a young child would eventually come to fruition.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, RAINERR lived the life many military families are accustomed to - moving around from city to city, remaining unsettled. Finally moving to Columbus, Georgia where he was raised, RAINERR began singing at home to musical idols such as Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, The Jacksons, Jodeci, Joe and R. Kelly. He honed his sound in church where he eventually developed a soulful, high-pitched falsetto. There was one problem, however - when he wasn’t singing in church, the now 11-year-old had a knack for falling asleep during service. RAINERR eventually turned to writing songs to keep him awake.
While writing songs, performing and winning numerous talent shows in high school, RAINERR finally received his first break. At 17, the singer performed his own record at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater. The success of his performance led to the record going into rotation on radio stations in Georgia. Feeling like music could lead to something bigger, RAINERR tried out for - and won - the chance to compete on American Idol. After the Idol experience, RAINERR decided to move to Atlanta and join its burgeoning urban music scene. However, he started his time in the city homeless. Sleeping in cars and on friends’ houses until he could get on his feet, a chance meeting with producer CJ Williams led to his first break as a songwriter.
In time, RAINERR’S writing and CJ’s production became a perfect marriage. Records were soon written for a who’s who of artists - Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Yelawolf, Marcus Paulk and Slim (of the R&B group 112). But the desire to be an artist on stage has never died. Life experiences turned to melodies; melodies turned to songs; songs turned to RAINERR’S debut album, slated to be released in Fall 2020. Powered by the smash single, The Hard Way, get ready to feel the RAIN coming down.
