rafaelsax Rafael Pereira Lima Rotterdam Rafael Pereira Lima is an artist with strong roots in Afro-Brazilian music. He combines his influences with jazz concepts. His main instruments are saxophone (alto and baritone) and flute. He works as a performer, composer, arranger, producer, educator entertainer. He is also a self-proclaimed nerd. Rafael started playing at the church at the age of 10 years old. With 16 moved to Mississippi/US, there he joined the Meridian Community Jazz Big Band and the Far Away Places Jazz Combo. Rafael has a bachelor degree in classical saxophone (UFRGS/BR) and masters in Jazz performance (Hanze – NY/US and Groningen/NL). While in Brazil he also taught saxophone for 2 years in the federal University of Brazil. Rafael is fluent in Choro music which is considered the oldest form of urban instrumental music from the americas. Brazilian musicians define Choro as the Latin of Brazilian music. With all those influences Rafael has already performed all around the world (cities like Rio de Janeiro, New York, Buda Pest, Amsterdam, Nashville and countries like India, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Uruguay and so on).
