RADIO INK - Bio
Being an independent artist that self-funds, self manages and well, basically “self-everything’s” themselves – is a seemingly impossible task when competing against the million-dollar music majors. So it’s no surprise that Radio INK were shouting HELL YEAH when The Presets and Sneaky Sound System, smashed all expectations and limitations previously set for Aussie Indies and paved the way forward for other electro-pop-dance artists.
Together since 2009, Radio INK set about following in the footsteps of their electro-pop predecessors – the trio that year launched their debut single ‘Wish U Were Here’ which was supported on the Hot 30 Countdown, Take 40 Australia, Video Hits and Rage.
Following the success of ‘Wish U Were Here’, Radio INK was nominated for Australian Independent Artist of the Year, and Independent Video Clip of the Year (MusicOz Awards 2009). The band became one of the first indie artists to chart to #1 on Austereo’s new digital station RadarRadio where they were voted to the top spot for five consecutive weeks by the Aussie public.
The team at Vodafone Australia soon thereafter dropped into a Radio INK live show and chose the band to star in their Vodafone Blackberry national TV campaign alongside MTV’s Ruby Rose (February 2010). Working with Empire of the Sun Aria award-winning video Director Josh Logue, Radio INK launched their second single in the TVC. The single, ‘Give Me What You Got’, was chosen as the 2010 NA2R Winner by National Commercial Radio (September 2010).
For their new single, ‘Physical’ (out from December 10), Radio INK travelled across the globe in search of a producer to take their music to the next level. Their journey led them to New York City where they worked with one of the most credited pop producers - Diamond Cut (Amy Merideth, Evermore, Cassette Kids, Delta Goodrem and Dragonette).
The band describes ‘Physical’ as “summer fun, with a chant that’s going to sweep through the dancefloors”. Staying true to their club roots, the band is armed with a banquet of quality remixes for the dance faithful. ‘Physical’ remixes include GLOVES (Sneaky Sound System, Cut Copy, Jet, Van She & Operator Please), STA (Toronto, Canada), Moonchild and Muffin.
Radio INK are residents and appear at headline shows at some of Sydney’s premier venues and clubs including LADY LUX, PIANO ROOM, IVY POOL, THE CLUB, FAVELA, KIT & KABOODLE, THE ARGYLE, THE GOLDEN SHEAF, THE GREENWOOD HOTEL and TRADEMARK. They’ve been invited as special guests performing at A-list private parties and corporate functions and have gigged with acts such as The Potbelleez, Art Vs Science, Amy Meredith, and Grafton Primary.
"For fans of Sneaky Sound System, The Presets, and all the other electro-pop sensations stemming from down under, rejoice: You’ve got a new name to add to your playlists" - MuuMuse 2010 (The Hype Machine).
