Ferguson: Missouri governor wrong to bring in Highway Patrol, caved in to political pressure by RFI published on 2014-08-17T19:08:10Z One person was shot and seven people arrested in Ferguson on Sunday as police struggled to impose a curfew, a week after the shooting of an unarmed black teenager. Missouri police said the victim was in a critical condition after being shot by an unidentified attacker. Police had used smoke bombs and tear gas to disperse around 200 protesters who defied a curfew imposed by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon. Protests and violent clashes followed the 9 August shooting of Michael Brown by a white police officer. The incident has renewed a national debate over the treatment of African Americans by law enforcement. Police have also been criticised for using military-grade armoured trucks and high-powered weapon in their response to demonstrations. RFI spoke to Gabe Crocker, president of the St Louis County Police Association. Genre ferguson
