Kielen King originally from Saginaw, MI and currently residing in Vancouver, WA, gravitated to music at a young age listening to records with his dad. After seeing Run D.M.C. in Krush Groove at 12 he knew he wanted to be making music. While in high school, he found a couple of likeminded friends and formed a hip hop group together. Years later, he got a start in the industry when a local guitarist, A.G. Donnaloia, gave him some opportunities with cameo appearances during the band Grooveyard’s stage shows around Portland, OR.
Kielen’s compositions often carry a dark, melodic sound which often ventures into aggressive and sinister. The influence of hip-hop music is clearly evident by his use of aggressive drum tracks to complement his instrumentation. He lists Redman as his musical idol and also notes his most respected artists are Tonedeff, High Klassified, Jamiroquai, Pharoahe Monch, SiR, Illa J, CZARFACE, DOOM, Digital Underground, Kyle West (Al B. Sure), CZARFACE, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Stevie Wonder, Take 6, LL Cool J and Erick Sermon. These artists plus Kielen’s love of science fiction heavily influence his style of writing music that is not “traditional.”
Kielen has released 10 albums, Azure Noir - "Addicted to Blue.” (2008) • "Soundtrack for an Automated Night” (2009) • "Soundtrack for an Automated Night II” (2013) • El Luchador Negro - “Don’t Touch the Mask” (2013) • “Star Pilot's Lament” (2011) • "Star Pilot's Revenge" (2012 - via Kickstarter) • "Star Pilot's Demesne” (2015 - via Kickstarter) • "8-bit Ships” (2015) • “Warmusic” (2017) • “Nathan Dunbar’s ‘Nightlife’” (2017), and has performed at Rose City Comic Con plus various local events.
Kielen’s goal is to carve out a niche with non-traditional hip-hop fans that exist adjacent to the Nerdcore genre, but focusing more on enjoyable music within a certain theme and less on pop culture references. He also wants to be known for his unique compositions and willingness to color outside the lines of traditional subject matter.
Kielen continues to make music not only because he loves the feeling it gives him when he is working on a composition, but also the unequalled rush he gets from performing on stage. 2017 saw the release of a hip-hop EP titled, “Warmusic” with 2 collaborators known collectively as “Preytorians.” “Warmusic” can best be described as a war-themed project meant to inspire listeners put aside their fear and hit the battlefield ready to fight for the things they believe in.
“The versatility of the (Warmusic) sound and the intensity of their lyrics all contribute to this end, calling on you to rise and remain vigilant amidst harrowing adversity.”
