KTVU apologizes on-air for Asiana pilot hoax by Producer Matthew published on 2013/07/13 00:11:27 +0000 KTVU anchor Frank Somerville apologizes on air after the station misidentified four pilots on board Asiana Airlines Flight 214. The station claimed the names -- which were obviously part of a phonetic hoax -- were "confirmed" by NTSB officials in Washington. Somerville: "Tonight, we want to say that we're sorry. Earlier today, during our noon newscast, we misidentified the pilots in the Asiana Airlines crash. Later in the newscast, we did issue an apology. We also apologizes on our website and on our social media sites. I want to tell you here, on behalf of all of us at KTVU -- and we have a lot of very good people here -- we pride ourselves on getting it right, and we have the highest of standards and integrity. But in this case, there's just no other way to say it: We made a mistake. So, again, for all of us at KTVU, we offer our sincerest apology."
