Cuckoo stays at home by toc toc published on 2013/01/20 21:07:27 +0000 My objective in creating this composition was to create a soundscape that would combine two representative experiences of my time staying in London, being alone at home in my small studio apartment, and being together with friends in public spaces that I know well and enjoy. In particular I wanted to get the feeling of being away from home in the afternoon and returning home to study in the evening, creating a personal perspective rather than a more objective documentary style. It is interesting to note though that in an urban environment, where the nature of space is often changing as we move about, the qualities of sounds are related very much to the architecture in which they occur. In my case this had the effect that the majority of the recordings that I made, and indeed used, were recorded not while walking but rather while sitting. In a sense the piece I have made is a sequence of “soundsittings” rather than a soundwalk.
