Stefan Pohlit: STRINGS (2009) by pohlit-istanbul published on 2013-04-08T20:24:51Z Stefan Pohlit: "STRINGS" for orchestra. Orchestre National de Lorraine, Metz, dir: Jacques Mercier. Centre d'Acanthes 2009, supervised by the honorable Hugues Dufourt and visited by my long-time teacher of Composition, Prof. Wolfgang Rihm. The microtonal structure of this work is based on an experimental harmonic study on the subparticular Schlesinger modes which I undertook in fall 2008. It was composed by making full use of a 6-dimensional, 11-limit harmonic space, focusing on Kathleen Schlesinger's "Dorian" harmonía, The term "strings" refers to the shape of the resulting foreground material, reminding me, in some way, of the super-strings of the contemporary model of physical space. The orchestra is partly detuned, which works quite well due to the slow pace of the strings sections. Please note the final cadence and the necessarily long coda, residing on a superposition of two spectra at the distance of the harmonic augmented fourth 11/8.
