EL PLVYBXY - ABYA YALA [EP] by EL PLVYBXY published on 2019-12-13T19:26:16Z @somosmajia On November 30th, Majia presents 5-track EP Abya Yala, the label’s debut record of Buenos Aires-based producer El Plvybxy. Abya Yala is the convergence of futuristic club sounds that defy genre-specificity, while being rooted in El Plvybxy’s personal experiences between his homelands of Brazil and Argentina. The EP self-defines a style that relies heavily on field recordings of nature from El Plvybxy’s time in Rio de Janeiro, textural vocal sampling, and a touch of reckless trance music. Abya Yala is documentation of El Plvybxy’s time traveling around Brazil’s Regiao de lagos and meditating on the natural paradises he witnessed. Upon returning to Buenos Aires, he honed in on studying his roots, bringing him to the pre-Colombian concept of the Earth, also known as the album’s namesake Abya Yala from Argentina’s Diaguita community. Gregorio Da Silva a.k.a "El Plvybxy" is an producer/DJ residing in Buenos Aires. With Argentinian and Brazilian roots, El Plvybxy founded netlabel AGVA in 2016. El Plvybxy forms part of a new wave of forward-looking Latinx producers intent on creating a representative and inclusive scene and sound. El Plvybxy has previously released original music through Pineal Sounds, Oxyorange, and Classical Trax, and has collaborated with local and international artists Catnapp, Defensa, Slav Zimm, and Wulffluw xciv. Remezcla called El Plyvbxy’s Mineral EP a release “full of horror movie whisper commands, foot stomping industrial, and robotized cathedral bells.” “Febre,” meaning “fever” in Portuguese, is an icy rendering of rolling vocal samples, hybridized techno elements, and hypnotic case studies in regional percussion styles. “Lazos,” meaning “laces” in Spanish, is a metallic, clashing take on a dembow beat with a sample bank that manages to be at once controlled and chaotic. “Veneno,” meaning “poison” in Spanish, is a spacious trance club track integrating El Plvybxy’s samples of nature recorded on his journey. “Paraiso entre rocas” integrates wind and water samples from the Brazilian coast among baile funk beats and trance synths, featuring Buenos Aires-based vocalist Morita Vargas. The EP also features a remix of “Paraiso entre rocas” from Lao of NAAFI. Contains tracks EL PLVYBXY-Lazos by M A J I A & A M O R published on 2018-11-01T04:30:21Z El Plvybxy, 'Febre' (2018).
