Psyence - Dirty Gonzo - out now. (MP3 and WAV)
Stoke on Trent’s alternative rock band Psyence release their new EP Reality or Design on March 19th, which is preceded by new single Dirty Gonzo, on Black Belt Recordings.
The 5 track EP includes recent singles Tusk and Retrospect, new single Dirty Gonzo and two other songs, Marmalade, a long time live favourite which is previously unreleased and the largely instrumental track The Stranger.
Dirty Gonzo is a wild ride through bat country with that friend all of us has.
Fun fact: the drummer in the band, Joe Walsh is called Gonzo by the rest of the band. The lyrics reflect his character !
“Reality or Design?
Says it all really doesn’t it? Has this past year been real? Or is it just some hellish nightmare we’re all gonna wake up from soon? 2020 was without a doubt one of the toughest years many of us have ever experienced.
Within our families and friends there have been loved ones lost and new lives born, no gigs allowed, plans re-arranged, and then changed again.
In the void, and when we were allowed to do so, we regrouped in our studio, which has become our safe haven from the madness.
We immersed ourselves in creation, experimenting with our music, writing new songs, searching for the path forward. So we now proudly present to you our new five track EP, our response to a frustrating year for most and question once more, Reality or Design?” - Pysence
2020 singles Tusk and Retrospect earned Psyence their first editorial playlists at Spotify, Amazon and Deezer and their first radio plays on
Kerrang! Radio and Radio X, as well as both tracks being Record of the Week at BBC Introducing. Tusk spent 6 months on the Spotify Fresh Finds: Rock playlist and was also included in their Best of 2020 Year End list.
In December 2020 Cold Blooded Killer from their debut album featured in US prime time CBS TV show SEAL Team, the first time their music has been cut to picture.
With live shows returning in the summer, Psyence kick start their return with a headline performance at Sugarmill in Stoke for the Your City Festival in July, founded by Ben from the band. Psyence will return to Shiine On Festival in November and will perform at their Summer Party on the Thames in London, also in July. Other festival appearances are under discussion.
Psyence are Steve Pye (lead vocals and guitars), Jamie (Jay) Bellingham, Joe Walsh (drums), Ben Nixon (keys and synthesisers) and Jamie Cartlidge (rhythm guitar and vocals).
Developing a fearsome reputation for their incendiary live shows, the band have become firm favourites at the Shiiine On Festivals (and Cruise), as well as having performed at Kendall Calling, Tramlines, and Festival No 6 Festivals in the UK, amongst others.
