"It starts with Abdullah Ibrahim 'Ishmael', an alternative take, more spare than the official one somehow, from the record Banyana, 1976. I'm obsessed with that bassline, that's why it lasts that long, I really feel it necessary. After there's Laksa's new track from his upcoming EP on Timedance, wonderful production, it follows one of my all time favs, Mim Suleiman produced by Maurice Fulton, a track my girlfriend Jackie usually spin in her sets - let’s take it as a special dedication to her.
PML Beatz follows, fresh from the Prinicipe squad and then BFTT, one of my new fav young producers, Slikback, with a bumping unreleased (I guess) track, DJ Firmeza, a genius, Blawan, another genius fading into my brother Rey Sapienz, author of one of the most incredible debuts of last year (on Hakuna Kulala), then Minor Science's remix of Special Request - an incredible track with an incredible climax that I decide to kill in order to add some more rhythm deviance: The Modern Institute, love them to the bone, love them so much I speeded up this demo they sent me some months ago for my set at Boiler Room Lisbon, I finally managed to destroy it (LOL), Hassan Abou Alam with his sort of lo-fi high-nrg and then HPRIZM, because I loved Antipop Consortium and it's good to remember them, then a snippet from the new Muqata'a LP on Hundebiss.
Then the mix is taking a little break.
For obvious reasons, I’m a bit moody these days and I didn’t want to make a "constant energy" mix, it's not the time for that and I feel I wanted some space for the head.
I restart with Piezo, from his upcoming LP on Hundebiss, an incredible dubby jam, then Lamin's Raffia Arms mixed with an old school Pan Sonic track (from Altopirii, one of the most crucial album of my life), Ghost is coming up from the valley of death to sing his song on the legendary Acid Hall Riddim, Robert Hood is jamming on top, Fernando Falcao join the jam and then I'm done.
I finish the mix with Ain't No Grave, a blues collage from Ekkehard Ehlers, I feel it is so in tune with the reality we are leaving.
Then, mandatory, Underground by The Upsetters.
And to finish for real, a little skit from The Upsetter himself, Lee Scratch Perry, a recording we did in the car when he was coming to Vernasca, my hometown."
