Piperlain Rebecca and Ben Knight Sydney, The Blue Mountains Piperlain combines the sounds of acoustic, alternative pop/folk/rock and electronica with emotive, passionate vocals. Formed by singer/songwriters Benjamin Knight and Rebecca Voorn-Knight, the Piperlain sound has been compared to a contemporary version of The Cranberries and The Corrs with similarities to Sarah Blasko and Josh Pyke. Originating from The Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, influences for Piperlain include Arcade Fire, Tame Impala, Empire of the Sun, The Cranberries, Pink Floyd, Blondie and The Doors. The Piperlain sound has been described as “poetic” and “quirky” by The Grove Studios and “emotive” with “layers of depth” by Sony. In 2014 Piperlain made the finals of the B&T Madweek Battle of the Bands where they received commendation from Sony on live performance and song writing talent. During this time Frank Davey joined the band on bass and Greg McGrath on drums. Andy Sheehan later joined the band on keyboards and Jess Ung on drums. The single “Embrace” is from the forthcoming concept album entitled “Mother Mourned”, which recounts the personal and emotional journey of two people growing up with and caring for mothers with serious illnesses. It was recorded at The Grove Studios in 2014 with producer Josh Telford and executive producer Paul Iannuzzelli. It was mastered at Studios 301 by ARIA award winning engineer Steve Smart. Embrace was released early February and launched at the 2015 UBERfest! festival at The Bridge Hotel, Rozelle. The concept album is currently being completed due for release later this year.
