This movie resembles Ip Man 3 more than anything else. To Japanese audiences, however, it might be a little more receptive. The main selling point of the film is a rock solid plot. And the plot is strong, unique, and distinct from any other action film Iβve seen in recent years. The first half of the film especially is slick, fast paced, and playful (especially the way Fong taunts the bad guys). In the latter half, however, the film becomes a little repetitive and tries a little too hard to earn its laugh factor. With all that said, the film is a fun film with a strong story and an engaging concept. In other words, thereβs a lot to like, and itβs definitely worth a look, if you like martial arts, action and are looking for something other than your usual fare. The fact that this is a movie with actors as heavyweight caliber as Donnie Yen and Andy Lau adds to the intrigue and makes the film that much better.
The film proves to be enjoyable and entertaining in regards to the fighting and action sequences. These sequences are actual sequences within the film, so, as such, projects a high quality to these scenes. It also is quite helpful that Chinese martial arts are used, as these fighting sequences potentially could have featured longer fight scenes, which probably would have been completely unacceptable in many western action films. The acting by the primary cast is quite good. Yeung Siu Sheuk, as the leading character, is quite personable and charismatic, and the supporting actor Donnie Yen, is quite popular. These actors draw in the attention of the audience as they consistently inject their performances with the character's personality such as distrust, sarcasm, ulterior motives, and for good reason, make the audience laugh when they are shown in character acting. There are quite a few different fight scenes in the film. The DVD project (available as part of the DVD set) provides the opportunity to experience additional scenes in slow motion, something that is not included in the cinematic version. These scenes often provide a better look into the character of their fighting styles, especially when they are "reeling" their opponent and trying to end their opponent's life quickly, and with their opponent not having much in the way of defense. a3f8a02ae1
