chasing sunlight by Pia Rose Scattergood published on 2020-03-18T18:21:50Z This piece was composed entirely out of my continual desire to be in the sunshine. Much of the music’s material is fragmentary and melancholic, drawn from light sketches made on family holidays by the sea. I wanted to experiment with timbre and texture to create sound worlds that are, in one sense, warm and sonorous, while also having whimsical and playful qualities. My favourite part of the piece comes towards the end; the music begins to mutate through slowly shifting, graphically notated ideas, entering into a completely meditative state. with special thanks to Jess Hoskins and the musicians of Clare College Music Society premiered in West Road Concert Hall 03/20 Genre contemporary classical
