Philosophy Foundation London The Philosophy Foundation (TPF) is an educational charity that takes philosophy into schools and communities, focusing particularly on schools in disadvantaged areas. Philosophy addresses fundamental questions about reality, value and meaning. We believe that all children should have the opportunity to ask difficult questions, explore challenging ideas and find out what they believe about the world. Cultivating children’s philosophical capacities equips them with the means to better navigate their way through life and the world. It enables them to think critically and reflectively about their wishes, their actions and their environment. At TPF we aim to develop: • Good thinkers: Children who can open-mindedly evaluate ideas, unearth reasons, entertain multiple perspectives and explore implications. • Good listeners: Children who can build on other people’s ideas, listen without hostility, bear conflict and enjoy the pleasures of conversation. • Confident Individuals: Children who are articulate, self-assured and self-determined. We also endeavour to use philosophy to help improve educational opportunities. We want to give children the thinking skills that will allow them to take possession of their learning and improve their attainment across the board. In short, we believe that philosophy can help children lead good and flourishing lives.
