Philip Young
Amsterdam
Bio
Having produced one of the biggest records of 2009 (‘Kamouflage loves Fred remix’ of Massive Attack’s ‘unfinished sympathy’, in collaboration with True Identity), Philip Young has made himself a well respected dj and producer in the international dance scene. Number one at DECKS.DE for weeks and played by Karotte, Wighnomy Brothers, Dixon, Ame, Tania Vulcano, 2000 and one, Michel de Hey and many more.
Philip Young was born in 1982 in the Suburbs of Amsterdam. As a young boy he was inspired by Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz and Prince. Later in clubs he cribbed the tricks of the trade from House legends such as Dimitri, Laurent Garnier Daft Punk, Sven Vath, Henrik Schwarz and Richie Hawtin. After a few years of being on the dance floor Philip decided it was his time to be behind the decks. Soon, after a couple years of spinning, Ibiza’s El Divino offered him a residency that lasted through the summers of 2005 and 2006. Many residencies followed. Nowadays, he’s part of the successful concept and club night Click, together with well known techno DJ’s Paul Ritch, Slam, Joris Voorn and Shinedoe.
Philip’s style is an energetic integral of house and Techno. He loves to spin for hours, long DJ sets where he lets the audience hear and feel his unique style of deep mixes with lots of variety. And it works! He has been spinning the wheels at national festivals for years. In 2009 alone, he played over 10 festivals, like Welcome to the Future, Mysteryland (his fourth time in a row) Sensation, Loveland and many more.
Moreover, he’s been booked in every major Dutch club: Like Studio 80, Westerunie, Paradiso, Winkel van Sinkel, Effenaar, Melkweg, you name it. Also internationally Philip Young’s style is appreciated. He has visited Paris (Red Light), Antwerp (Café D’Anvers) and Barcelona’s Sonar Festival for several gigs. Today spending time in the studio, is a big part of Philip’s career. With several releases on the Dutch label 90 Watts Records, including remixes by Gimikk, David Labeij and Wouter de Moor and a remix for the internationally know label Rebirth, he has become a serious producer. And with huge support from Richie Hawtin for his last track with VMH called ‘I Don’t Want To Win’, Philip Young is being plugged by big shots all over the world.
In September 2010, again in collaboration with True Identity, Philip will release a track called ‘Save Me’ on the big Spanish label SURUBA. It will be part of their compilation vol. 3, amongst Tigerskin, Robert Babicz, Gorge and many more! The near future also holds collaborations with Arjuna Schiks (Traum) and Marcus Gehring (Upon You). So one thing’s for sure: there will be plenty of ‘Philip Young’ to listen to this year!
