Buffalo Gals (with apologies to Lou and Donna Reed) by PeterLehndorff published on 2012/07/23 01:06:45 +0000 I'm doing this mainly to get it off my computer(s) and let it go. I'll take it down or move it after a bit. When I got my first copy of GarageBand (probably in 2007 or 2008) I had no way of recording my voice or guitar on that old computer. I was still trying to learn and have fun with loops and midi files. I would find midi files and alter them by changing instruments or moving notes around with the little pencil thingie. I still don't have a keyboard or anything to work with. I looked on the internet and downloaded a midi/karaoke version of Lou Reed's "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" http://www.cool-midi.com/download/lou_reed-walk_on_the_wild_side.htm and started pulling it apart and changing instruments. Then I realized it was simple enough to sing "Buffalo Gals" to. These lyrics are mostly my own. The song is featured in "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed but it really is closer to Lou Reeds song in a way. The original Buffalo Galls were probably call girls and show girls in the rough town of Buffalo Springs which later became Buffalo, New York. Anyway I would come back to it, and try to make it work, about once every year or so. So there were all these versions piling up. Besides the Lou Reed midi parts I kept and my guitar and vocal the rest is all apple loops that I got with Garageband or Logic like the crickets, banjos, and fiddles and some other stuff.
