SUN VOYAGER (Grade 2.5) by Peter Sciaino published on 2019-02-21T00:14:39Z Sólfar ("The Sun Voyager") is a striking sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason, which faces the majestic Mt. Esja in Reykjavík, Iceland. It calls to mind a Viking ship at port before a voyage and was described by the artist as a “dreamboat and an ode to the sun." It was intended that this work convey “the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.” This Grade 2.5 piece for band is inspired by the idea that music can act as a vessel that takes us to extraordinary places. While a journey to the sun may exceed the bounds of reality, such an extraordinary expedition can exist where music and fantasy meet.
