SWEETOOTH is formed by Paul Withey and Sarah Lazenby, they produce their own unique brand of boogie - influenced disco hedonism. Playing music with real instruments while not relying on samples .
With recent releases on labels like Masterworks Music, Midnight Riot and Situationism, their sound has that crisp, tight & smooth retro feel with catchy synths, deep disco beats & hook laden melodies. Influenced by Minneapolis funk, New York boogie, disco & nu-disco, they have already had their tracks remixed by Dr Packer, Yam Who?, HP Vince, Cuz Electric, Don Dayglow, Limpodisco, Groovement Inc & Crystal Touch and collaborated with Kellini.
Paul Withey is a self-taught producer and musician, originally from Dorset, living in London.
His love of music began at an early age.
He was taught guitar by Steve Marriot (Small faces) he started writing and recording his own songs at the age of 13 on a 4-track tape recorder, collecting vintage synths, guitars and Prince & Bowie records which led to his love of vinyl.
After several bands and working with producers like James Sanger, Dave Allen (The Cure) & Paul Freegard (Depeche Mode) he decided to build his own studio at home & produce himself, leading to form the band ‘Shake Tiger Shake’ with his museSarah Lazenby.
Shake tiger shake shared a stage with Chic and SWEETOOTH was formed from the ashes.
Sarah Lazenby is a singer, songwriter originally from Sheffield, now living in London.
She began singing at the age of 6 in the church choir and her love of music and disco in particular began listening to her mums vinyl collection.
After a successful audition for Polydor at the age of 15, she started writing with long term co-writer Nick Lockwood and formed a band called ‘Lazenby’. They were signed to an offshoot of Universal records and shared stages with Jamiroquai, Grace Jones and performed at Ronnie Scotts‘jazz Club, Glastonbury, MTV party at Cannes Film Festival and at the opening of the Wonder Room in Selfridges.
She has written and collaborated with Femi-Fem (Young Disciples), Jimmy Senya Haynes (Steel pulse, Des’ree) & Shaun Dangerfield (Boogie Cartel).
Forming the band ‘Shake Tiger Shake’ with Paul Withey and then becoming ‘SWEETOOTH’ as a duo.
Their Dj sets are fun, hedonistic & decadent mixing disco, nu-disco & 80’s boogie funk that make you want to get down.
