House DJ and producer.
Paul has been a music fan from a very early age. His tastes in music are many and varied but his passion is for House Music.
He first got into house music around 1987 - 1988 and first started DJing in 1989. It was Acid House and the warehouse rave sounds during the second summer of love in 1988 that really kick started his passion for the music and inspired him to start DJing. He was also a big fan of the Madchester/Baggy sound when there was a massive crossover with indie and house. Trips to The Hacienda were a big influence on his sound and he brought a bit of Manchester back with him to Leicester.
Paul had DJ residencies in Leicester and Birmingham and like many hundreds of unknown, hard working DJs across the country worked tirelessly week after week breaking new sounds as every type of house music sub genre developed and mutated into the different styles that are around today. This was the golden age for dance music when DJs worked for the passion of the music - not for fame and definitely not for fortune!!
Fast forward to the present and Paul has turned his attention to production and making his own tracks. His style is heavily influenced by the original House sounds of the 80s and 90s. Some may call this old school but Paul prefers to call it Classic House. He produces music that he’d like to hear himself and that evokes the feeling of the original House club nights and warehouse raves. He also produces his “House Is A Feeling” podcast (on iTunes, podOmatic & Beatport) and has provided guest mixes for online radio stations such as Manchester Global Radio.
Paul is continually learning new production techniques and experimenting with new sounds. He is a massive fan of drum machines and analogue synth hardware which he always tries to use on his tracks. He’s steadily building up a collection of synths and some favourite pieces of equipment are the Moog Slim Phatty, Dave Smith Mopho, Moog Minitaur, Elektron Machinedrum. New acquisitions are the Jomox Xbase999 (for that Roland TR909 classic sound) and the Cyclone Analogic TT-303 (an authentic replica of the TB303). So expect some deep Acid House tracks coming up.
In 2012, Paul was selected by Pumped Audio to be an Amplified supported artist which is helping to promote new producers. (http://www.pumpedaudio.com/amplify/)
Paul doesn’t limit himself to one particular genre but has a preference for classic House styles, Deep House, Tech House, Detroit Techno, Chicago House, Acid House, Garage...the list goes on.
Musical influences include, but not limited to, Todd Terry, Derek May, Shapeshifters, Freemasons, Joey Negro, Joey Beltram, New Order, Kevin Saunderson & Inner City, A Guy Called Gerald, Prodigy, Chic, Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk, K-Klass, 808 State, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, The Farm, Daft Punk, John Peel, Paul Weller, Motown, Northern Soul.
Current favourites - Disclosure, Duke Dumont, Sonny Wharton, Supernova, Husky, Detroit Swindle, Waze & Odyssey, Audiowhores, Gussy, J Paul Getto
Paul has a passion for his music and producing so expect much more to come in the future.
