1.5 to stay alive by Panos Caribbean published on 2015-11-30T19:01:31Z At the Climate Conference COP21 in Paris, the Caribbean has released a theme song that calls on the world to recognise and respect the legitimate claims of small islands in the face of climate change. With lyrics written by Kendel Hippolyte and music composed and produced by Ronald Boo Hinkson, this song stresses the need for greater climate justice and for a shared commitment to combat climate change. This project has brought together several of the Caribbean's greatest and most conscious artists, as part of a regional campaign spearheaded by Panos Caribbean in collaboration with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, the Caribbean Development Bank and other regional partners. Artists performing on the song: Banky Banx, BelO, Kendel Hippolyte, E.sy Kennenga, Jessy Leonce, Ace Loctar, Shayne Ross, David Rudder, Aaron Silk, Taj Weekes, and Deridee Williams. Think each island community can take this song and also apply to a more local context with differences between the wealthy and poor, with the absence of a political commitment to sustainable livelihoods. Where the shore meets the sea we continue to see our trash leave, we allow our shit to empty untreated, runoff from our fertilizer and pesticide laden lands empty, and we continue to pour concrete so our hotel rooms can practically be in the sea. Think all school children should use this song to learn about climate change and sustainability. Hopefully they will prove that our local food production decline is not currently a climate change issue and CXC agriculture would become more prominent in the region. Definitely a wake up call for local action, but also makes the point that some things are beyond our borders. 2015/12/01 13:13:22 +0000 Comment by XyLaw Aum Love it! 1.5 To Stay Alive! 2015/12/01 01:46:04 +0000
