Admission by PALEDAY published on 2021-02-27T22:11:17Z Admission - from the forthcoming PALEDAY album ‘Controversion’ LGBTQ hate crimes have risen dramatically over the past few years in the UK. Suicide rates amongst young LGBTQ people are 3 times the national average. Discrimination is still widely seen, and attempts to teach inclusion and acceptance in schools have met with protests on faith grounds. There are 70 or so countries in the world where it is illegal to be LGBTQ and 12 where the death penalty still exists. The pandemic has served to isolate LGBTQ people further by removing access to support networks and safe spaces. ‘Conversion Therapy’ seeks to ‘pray away the gay’ by getting a person to acknowledge their sexual orientation as a compulsion, like a disease, and to seek absolution in the name of God. (There’s a reason Channel 4’s acclaimed yet harrowing, hit tv series was called ‘It’s A Sin’). The ‘therapy’ is based on the 12 Steps program for change, with step one being to admit the ‘problem’. Admission is my response to this first step. Since religion is the basis for the ‘therapy’, and for most LGBTQ discrimination, I thought it'd be nice to borrow as many names of Old & New Testament books as I could, 22 as it happens!
