Welcome to the SoundCloud Help Community, a service provided by SoundCloud Limited, Rheinsberger Str. 76/77, 10115 Berlin, Germany (“SoundCloud”, “we” “our”, “us”).
There is certain information that we collect automatically through our webspace provider as the result of your visit of the Help Community (through so called server log-files), or through the use of web analytics services. This information includes:
the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the device from which you access the Help Community (this can sometimes be used to derive the country or city from which you are accessing the Help Community)
the site that you visited immediately prior to visiting the Help Community
the specific actions that you take on the Help Community, including the pages that you visit, the amount of posts you write, and the amount of likes you give or receive
the time, frequency and duration of your visits to the Help Community
your browser type and operating system
the nature of the device from which you are accessing the Help Community, for example, whether you are accessing the Help Community from a personal computer or from a mobile device
information collected through cookies and similar technology, as described in the section "Cookies"
You don’t need to provide us with any personal information in order to view the Help Community. However, to be able to post to the Help Community, we require you to register for a Help Community account and, by doing so, you will provide us with certain information as listed below:
We use the following information that you provided to us when you signed-up for an account on the SoundCloud platform:
your email address and your user name, which are essential for managing your Help Community account, and
your profile picture.
You may choose, at your discretion, to provide additional information for your public profile on the Help Community – for example:
None of this profile information is mandatory, and you can amend or delete it at any time, just as your profile picture.
Information that you post: you may provide personal data when you post to the Help Community.
Information from correspondence: you will provide certain personal data if you contact us by email, mail, fax or other offline means.
We use the information that we collect about you for the following purposes:
Use of and interaction with the Help Community, and security:
To operate and maintain your Help Community account, and to provide you with access to the Help Community.
To identify you as the originator of your posts and/or the other contributions that you make to the Help Community.
Your email address is used to identify you when you sign-in to the Help Community.
Your email address is used to send you service updates and notifications regarding your account, and to send you notifications when a new post is made to a thread that you posted to.
To provide you with technical support.
To respond to you about any comment or enquiry you have submitted.
To provide you and other users with data regarding the amount and popularity of your and their posts, and to award you with virtual badges for your knowledge of SoundCloud related issues and interaction on the Help Community.
To prevent or take action against activities that are, or may be, in breach of our Terms, Community Guidelines or applicable law.
Any additional information that you provide as part of your public profile, such as your date of birth, or your city and country of residence, will be published on your profile page. This information will be publicly accessible and may be viewed by anyone visiting the Help Community.
Improving and customizing the Help Community and SoundCloud platform:
To analyze the use of the Help Community, and the people visiting the Help Community, in order to improve the Help Community and customize it to your needs and interests, and to improve the SoundCloud platform.
For other purposes, provided we disclose this to you at the relevant time, and provided that you agree to the proposed use of your personal data.
Other users: any information in your public profile or that you post will be accessible by other users of the Help Community.
With your consent: we will disclose your information if you have explicitly agreed that we may do so. We will make this clear to you at the point at which we collect your information.
Service providers: we use certain reputable third parties, some of whom may be located outside of the European Economic Area, to provide us with certain specialized services related to the Help Community. These third parties will have access to certain information about you, but only where this is necessary in order for those third parties to provide their services to us. Where we transfer personal data to these third parties, we ask and require these third parties to implement appropriate organizational and technical security measures to protect against unauthorized disclosure of personal data, and only to process personal data in accordance with our instructions and to the extent necessary to provide their services to us.
As aggregated data: we may aggregate your personal data with similar data relating to other users of the Help Community in order to create statistical information regarding the Help Community and its use, which we may then share with third parties or make publicly available. However, none of this information would include any email address or other contact information, or anything that could be used to identify you individually, either online or in real life.
If required by law: we will disclose your information if we believe in good faith that we are permitted or required to do so by law, including in response to a court order, subpoena or other legal demand or request.
To protect our interests: we may disclose your information if we feel this is necessary in order to protect or defend our legitimate rights and interests, or those of our users, employees, directors or shareholders, and/or to ensure the safety and security of the Help Community and/or the SoundCloud® community.
In the context of a business transfer: we may transfer your information to any person or company that acquires all or substantially all of the assets or business of SoundCloud, or on a merger of our business, or in the event of our insolvency.
When you submit a post to the Help Community, you will automatically receive a notification per email about any subsequent posts to this thread by other users. You can disable or enable notifications from within your Help Community account under your account settings. Please note that disabling notifications will not disable essential account notifications such as important service updates, and other essential information relating to your Help Community account.
As described above, most of the personal data and other information you provide to us can be accessed and updated via the profile settings of your Help Community account. If you wish to change the email address and profile name associated with your account, or if you wish to access, amend or delete any other personal data we hold about you, please write to us at email@example.com from the email address that is associated with your account.
Please also contact us as described above, if you want to delete your Help Community account. We will do so within a reasonable period of time, but we may need to retain some of your personal data in order to satisfy our legal obligations, or where we have a legitimate reason for doing so. Deleting your SoundCloud account will not automatically delete your Help Community account.
SoundCloud and the Help Community is not intended for use by children. Anyone under the age of 13 is not permitted to use the SoundCloud platform and the Help Community and must not attempt to register an account or submit any personal information to us. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from any person who is under the age of 13 or allow them to register an account. If it comes to our attention that we have collected personal data from a person under the age of 13, we will delete this information as quickly as possible. If you have reason to believe that we may have collected any such personal data, please notify us immediately at firstname.lastname@example.org.
