Visitors to the installation were asked to install a small app onto their phones before then recording a short audio / video selfie. The participants then walked around the festival location for 10-15 mins(La Friche Belle de Mai, Marseilles). These walks were tracked by the app, with the resulting audio, video and geographic data being uploaded into the installation, contributing to a 3d immersive environment and sound sampling arena. Sounds were diffused through four stereo channels, organized and affected by the position of camera perspectives (i.e., first-person video game avatars) in the visual simulation. These sound streams were remixed in real time using a custom patch developed in Pure Data and integrating granular synthesis, delay, equalization and convolution reverb modules. The piece has been developed collaboratively by Owen Chapman (Montreal) and Peter Sinclair (Marseilles) since 2017 and has been supported by the GMEM, Seconde Nature, Diveresities (France) and La Chambre Blanche (Canada) as well as the artists home institutions (Concordia University and ESSAix).
