12 MichaelMash by owenchapman published on 2011/10/29 01:05:07 +0000 The original point of this piece, as with JoJomash, was to show how one can make a beat with very little in terms of sounds. After finishing the beat in about 5 minutes with the sound production class I teach in the Concordia Comm. Studies department (Sound II 2008/09), I fiddled with it a bit more at home, adding some low piano tones and then mashing in the Michael J. vocal. My daughter Thea used the piece in a video piece she recently put together for the awesome online video project "52 pick up", directed by Dayna McLeod. Check the video out through the following link : http://52pickupvideos.com/HTML/Chapman_Week3.html Sources: - Piano - played low on the keyboard and then pitch shifted down an octave. I also reversed the file on occasion. - Michael J. acapella - downloaded with the help of Youtube and Audio Hijack. This file had only his voice, backed by a snare hit on the 2 and 4 beats. - Kick drum - a sample of myself kicking the course textbook for a class I teach in Comm. Studies at Concordia--Text: Stanley Alten's Audio in Media, Course: Sound II (Coms 376)--see http://sound2.org. The sample was passed through some serious eq and reverb processing to make it sound nice and big! - Hand Clap - a sample of the students from Coms 376 (Sound II) clapping in unison - HHat - Joey Sciacchitano (Sound II student) on the beat box! - Tuning Fork - with some serious pitch shifting into the lower frequency range. This file was also reversed on occasion.
