Magnificat - The Redcliffe Service by Owain Park published on 2014-05-02T11:10:53Z Commissioned by the Andrew Kirk and the Choir of St Mary Redliffe Church to coincide with the arrival of their new chamber organ, this Magnificat is a new take on the traditional chamber organ and choir services. The piece explores atonalism, whilst also incorporating plainchant-like motifs and homophonic textures. The chamber organ's artistic potential is also investigated, with flourishes and colourful effects peppering the texture. The harmony is without a simple root major triad until the Gloria, when the tenors and basses enter on a triumphant A major chord. (Disclaimer: despite the use of the chamber organ, this is nothing like Byrd Second Service, Weelkes Fifth etc...) Genre Magnificat Comment by Margaret Simmonds Gorgeous 2014-06-15T20:09:17Z
