Union Of Ruckus (13 - EDO) by Stephen Weigel published on 2018-09-04T05:49:42Z This is an exercise in rhythmic and pitch-based detuning, as well as different types of pitch manipulation used with sounds. I made all of the sounds on this track by sampling four types of noisemakers: (1) Train whistle (2) (2) Duck caller (4) (3) Party popper (8) (4) Kazoo (4) The pitch material is a shift between three different scales: Father[8] (LsLsLLsL), and a MODMOS of Father[8] in two different keys (LLLsLsLs). Most of the tempo changes in this piece are directly involved with the shifts between these scales, and at what metrical windows we can clearly perceive the "changes". I got the pitch material from the two train whistles I used - how lucky of me that they were close to 13edo! One of the whistles uses (0-3-6-11), and the other uses (0-2-6-10). Combined, they are a subset of the Father[8] scale used (0-2-3-5-6-8-10-11). Each individual whistle is then, separately, a subset of the two aforementioned MODMOS's; (0-2-6-10) is a subset of (0-2-4-6-7-9-10-12), and (0-3-6-11) is a subset of (0-1-3-4-6-7-9-11). The whole steps and half steps, being more demarcated-stepwise in the MODMOS scales, lend themselves to being exaggerated, which you can hear towards the end of the piece most clearly. The whole steps from each MODMOS also mesh together through metrical tricks for brief glimpses at the 6L 1s scale (0-2-4-6-7-9-11). This uses (0-2-4-6) from the first MODMOS and (7-9-11-0) from the second. Created on Labor Day, 2018 (an appropriate time to name a song after unions... of sets). Genre Electronic
