(II) In The Week Midwinter by Stephen Weigel published on 2018-04-07T21:51:03Z Movement number II of the "Poorly Named Miniatures" series. Premiered at the BSU New Music Festival of Spring 2018. Written as a miniature piano piece, in the coldest week of January. I picked the chord progression to model the aesthetic of some movements of Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitives. A-minor key-sounds also remind me of winter, and the twinkling parts remind me of falling snowflakes. A miniature, for this occasion, is considered a piece that is either one minute long or 100 notes long. This piece is less than 100 notes, and about one minute long, as I considered each note of the background waltz texture (the beat) as a “note.” I also tried to use the black keys and white keys together in a compelling way like Ginastera would.
