POSTHUMOUS HONORS
I have wasted my lives
Sharpening knives
And offering my back
To see who arrives
And it’d be my honor
That this be recognized

I have chiseled this cube
To trinkets for rubes
Tourists to my town
And it’d be my honor
My posthumous honor
That this be understood

Why wouldn’t it?
My whole life
Was a bad idea

I invested my years
On these souvenirs
Feigning surprise
That it’d be my honor

That I be recognized

If this detritus survives

I’ll never know how I wrong I am
I’ll burst before my bubble can
So I can live and die by
“Well, I’ll show them”
And so I humbly accept
This award that I’ll never get
In memory of this one regret
