This track samples the sound recorded by the plasma wave instrument aboard Voyager 1 as it approached Jupiter's bow shock in 1979. The chirping sounds of electrons passing up through the bow shock can be heard, as well as the low thrum of Voyager 1's thrusters amid the sound of solar wind. Minimal processing was used to widen the stereo range and amplify certain frequencies already present, applied with a deep respect for the original recording.

The spoken word is an extract from C H R Θ M A ’s Heliosphere at the Brighton Fringe - http://www.ofthespheres.com/heliosphere.htm - the first public outing for Of The Spheres directed by Kate Genevieve. Performed by Rachel Blackman in a 360° projection Dome, viewers were taken on an audio visual journey exploring the Cosmos and the human body. The soundscape mixed data from Voyager 1's camera, electromagnetic and plasma wave instrumentation with the contents of the Golden Record that the Voyager probe is carrying away from earth.

Inspired by the Golden Disc fixed to NASA’s Voyager Probes, we have an open call running for spherical panoramas of the world in 2013. These spherical landscapes will play a key part in the next phase of Of The Spheres.
