JP Reynolds (born Rodney Jeremiah Reynolds) is an innovative artist, rapper and songwriter with an eclectic sound. As the creator of “rap gumbo,” JP’s music is a powerful blend of hip hop, jazz, funk, gospel and soul. His persona and style is often described as a love child between Lauryn Hill and Jimi Hendrix. In addition, he performs with a full band, which further defines the overall musical experience of seeing JP live.
In 2017, he formed The Peace and Power Band with Musical Director and Bassist, Criston Oates -- a 5 piece ensemble featuring drums (Jayare McKenzie) , guitar (Sidney Antoine and Mike Rodriguez) and keys (Duvane “Phats” Whilby). Later in 2017, the band expanded to include an all women’s horn section, including trumpet (Lessie Vonner), trombone (Mariel Bildsein and Kalia Vandever) and saxophone (Gabrielle Murphy).
JP Reynolds and the Peace and Power Band were featured on BRIC TV's 'B-Side' and AllHipHop.com. They performed at South by Southwest (SXSW), the Revolt Music Conference and the 50th Anniversary March on Washington. They frequent the New York City music circuit and have performed at venues, including B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, The Apollo Theater Soundstage, Silvana, The Shrine, Mercury Lounge, Knitting Factory, and Arlene's Grocery.
Since formally launching his music career, JP as recorded 7+ projects. His most recent project, Guavamatic Space Dream, was called “Remarkably special” by AllHipHop.com and “Socially progressive, spiritual and provocative” across the blog scene. His latest EP, Rap Gumbo, was released in May 2019.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, JP was raised in Mt. Vernon, New York. He is currently based in Harlem, NY and tours, nationally.
