Yang’s artistic practice across sound, installations, A/V and hybrid live performances, experimental and dance floor DJ sets, sound design for exhibitions and artists films, within contexts ranging from galleries and institutions to club culture, festivals and alternative, independent spaces.\n\nDJ&Producer\n\nWorking as a DJ and producer within club culture is a beloved and important direction in Yang’s artistic\nworld. \n\nNanzhen Yang’s club DJ practice focuses on techno music mainly in two fields - techno for danceflooors and darker, more ritualistic techno. Driving, immersive techno with unique cinematic textures and emotional impact defines Nanzhen’s dancefloor sound. During her eight years in London, she became a regular name at influential East London venue FOLD began a residency with Boudica and remained active within London’s creative communities. Since relocating to Berlin in 2025, Nanzhen has performed at Berghain/Panorama Bar (Säule), RSO, and toured\ninternationally across Asia and Europe. In the same year, she released a single on the London-based label Inferno. \n\nUnder Nanzhen’s darker, more ritualistic techno path, her sound is known for its dense yet balanced blending of noise, drone, EBM, spoken word, techno, and beyond. She has presented this side of her practice at Volnost in Seoul and with the London label Kaos, both of which strongly align with this sonic field.\n\n\nExperimental Soundscapes\n\nNanzhen’s experimental practice includes experimental DJ sets, live sound performances and more. In her experimental DJ sets, her mixing style continuously explores the use of multiple players—not simply mixing tracks, but deconstructing songs into elements and layers to create narrative-led, cinematic sonic journeys with a strong sense of space and atmosphere. Her live performances and experimental soundscapes frequently work with spoken word, samples, and field\nrecordings. She has presented sound works and performances at leading UK institutions, galleries, and museums, including Tate Britain (2024), Whitechapel Gallery (2024), ICA (2023), Somerset House (2022), and more.\n\nA/V and Hybrid Live Performance\n\nNanzhen collaborated with London-based artists Ruka Nayu and Harry Appleyard on A/V live performances at Iklectik (2021) and FormaHQ (2023).
