October, a female solo singer songwriter, performs her own soulful surf-rock compositions interspersed with her unique arrangements of pop covers. She is a refreshingly authentic original talent with a sumptuous Joplin-esque vocal style. Considering it “part of the fun”, October has always chosen to self-manage her career, including self-producing and recording her album.
Wearing her massive heart on her sleeve, her rich vocals resonate with the raw, awe inspiring Cornish coastline, so patently her inspiration.
Originally from the Home Counties her life has been an intricate web of trials, tragedies, and travel, the experiences of which have inculcated in her a beautiful mixture of innocent amazement and heroic altruism. The emotional depth of her remarkable debut album, ‘Some Of The Things’, clearly reflects the effect that these experiences have had on her. Joyously, her inner resilience and strength of soul that allowed her to triumph over adversities is also clearly evident.
Splitting her time between London and the South West, she is almost constantly on tour. She’s performed more than 20 times at five Glastonbury Festivals, and released her critically acclaimed debut album last year. October has thrilled and inspired audiences in large venues around the world including London’s Excel, Gothenburg’s Lisebergshallen Arena, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and Melbourne’s Espy, yet clearly still loves to play an intimate gig at a local pub. Her charisma and warmth were obvious in Soho’s Ronnie Scott’s Club, where she was invited to perform on the drums with the Ronnie Scott’s house band after her own set. She played the Isle of Wight Festival for the first time this summer. The word is spreading!
October is a skilled self taught multi-instrumentalist, whose various live performances throughout the UK have been broadcast by the BBC including Radio One. Her original work has also been used in internationally released film.
October has a deep seated passion and respect for the ocean. She is never without her surfboard, and is an avid supporter of and volunteer with “The Wave Project”, a charity that provides therapy to young people by teaching them to surf. She is making a name for herself on the surf scene, featuring in the likes of Surf Girl Magazine, and regularly playing at surf festivals and competitions such as Boardmasters and RedBull series. Even her beloved dog, Tia, surfs!
