From October 1st 2012, I will be criss-crossing the country by Greyhound bus for a year, listening to Americans’ stories of struggle, great and small… I’m a nu-folk scholar in a study of #AURALHISTORY… I believe the art of storytelling, the fundamental value of people’s stories, told by the people, to the people and for the people, are crucial for social growth and health.
I will be meeting all kinds of people… janitors, DJs, prostitutes, lawyers, CEOs, hairstylists, students, drop-outs, doll-makers, grifters, prison inmates, doctors, nurses… anyone and everyone who would be willing to share their time and their story, while we both spend an hour or a day “hanging out” (not “interviewing”), while I record with handwritten notes, audio or video (however my new friend is comfortable) and we share our hearts and stories to share with the world.
In a society dominated by the voices of the rich and powerful, my mission is to give a voice to the people, to allow us to speak to and listen to EACH OTHER in order to find real, rational and viable solutions to the real struggles Americans face everyday. As the project develops, on my Soundcloud profile I’ll have interviews, personal podcasts, making mixtapes and introducing you to the sounds of the amazing music producer friends I meet along my journey. Thanks for listening! Drop me a note here, on Twitter, Tumblr or wherever to say Hi! <3
I will tweet and tumblr daily, blog weekly and make video blogs whenever possible (I’m not skilled at video editing yet, though!) and at the end of the year, I will write a book and create a full-length documentary of my journey and the people I meet along the way.
I hope you will join me in my journey. It is not about me, it is about YOU… at the very most, it is about US.
(NOTE: I am still in the VERY beginning stages of this project so please bear with me as it grow and develops over the next month or two and over the next year. Thank you!)
