Love Rules by Noah Hoffeld published on 2019-12-11T02:42:08Z Produced by Noah Hoffeld and Wells Hanley Noah engineered and recorded it all in his home studio in Brooklyn, New York City in 2018-19. The album took some time to make, because Wells only came to NYC from his home once a month. Each month, we’d meet for one day to improvise and record! When we'd finished our parts, we added bass and tablas. The players are: Noah Hoffeld, cello Wells Hanley, piano Mark Egan, fretless bass Arjun Bruggerman, tablas and world percussion The album was mixed by the great Mark Plati, who’s mixed albums by Philip Glass, Prince, the Cure, and David Bowie, as well as coproducing and touring with Bowie. Mark has worked on several of Noah's projects, including this Elegy for David Bowie, with Wells on piano: https://vimeo.com/165386105 Love Rules was mastered by Tom Durack, at Inwood Hill Masters The story behind BODHIHEART: Love Rules Wells and I met while playing for various singers in NYC. We knew each other for a couple of years till one day, while waiting for an artist in rehearsal, we began to improvise spontaneously. After just a few minutes, we knew we had a special musical relationship, something which required further exploration. We had always enjoyed playing together, but that moment of one-to-one connection really opened a new door for us. Shortly afterward, we recorded the Elegy together. That felt like just a teaser of what we could do and enjoy together. One day in the studio, and then it was gone. But one thing we discovered that day, chatting in the studio, is that we are both meditators involved in spiritual life. It was no wonder we had clicked on so many levels. We continued to play together in groups until one day I proposed an idea which was on my mind. What if we entered into a project of our own which would bridge our relationship to Spirit and our love for improvising together? Something which would tap into both our spiritual and our musical lives and be an expression of that fusion? Wouldn’t that be something that would be of benefit to others as well? And so Love Rules was born.
