Solid Steel Radio Show 28/4/2017 Hour 1 - Karen Gwyer by Ninja Tune

Solid Steel (28th April) Our guest in Hour 1 this week is Karen Gwyer who recently announced her new album 'Rembo' which is coming out on Don't Be Afraid in June. This follows releases on Kaleidoscope, No Pain In Pop, Alien Jams and Opal tapes. She grew up in Michigan with Detroit on the nearby horizon, the city’s time-honoured musical heritage slowly sank under Gwyer’s skin. First through public radio, late night transmissions and endless cassette recordings, then on the life-changing local rave scene. The new album is in some way a tribute to those transformative moments caught on tape. Now living in London, she also had a show on Radar Radio for about a year (concluding late last year). She told us;

"This mix was recorded at the time of a visit from my French in-laws, and I was heavily focused on tackling several key French phrases relating to sleep in the past tense, sleep in the future, the cost of living, and the haplessness of the opposition party in what is soon to no longer be the UK."
