SOLID STEEL 03.07.19 - FOUR TET by Ninja Tune

Solid Steel returns with brand new and exclusive mixes from Four Tet and Trevor Jackson.

For this special show we have Kieran Hebden - AKA Four Tet - partnered with Trevor Jackson - founder of Output Recordings, the independent record label he ran between 1996 and 2006.

Both artists have a long history with the show (this is Hebden’s 7th appearance and Jackson's 3rd), as well as with each other. Hebden’s early releases as part of Fridge and his first solo release - the 1997 "Double Density" single under the artist name 4T Recordings - were released on Output. The label was also home to the first releases under his Four Tet Alias, including 1998 singles "Thirtysixtwentyfive" and "Misnomer", and 1999's “Glasshead"/"Calamine" single and first full-length album “Dialogue”. Jackson also released music on the label as Skull and Open Music and elsewhere including his work as Playgroup.

Speaking about the mix and his history with Jackson, Hebden told us: “This is a mix of music from all over the place that I’ve been enjoying and getting inspired by in recent times. A snapshot of my personal listening world. Some of the way I search for music and the way I DJ was learnt from Trevor Jackson so his influence is always in what I do in some way. I met him when I was a teenager and he introduced me to loads of records with all different styles and origins and also showed me ways to bring these sounds into the future through sampling and DJing. This open minded approach to listening and sound I think is one of the great strengths particularly of producers who came from hip hop in the 80’s and 90’s because there was such a strong incentive to explore all types of music in the search for samples. The passion and enthusiasm for listening and discovering music that comes from this is something I have huge respect for"
