Marimba Concerto No. 1, "Influences": I. Chromatism by Niels Hak published on 2012/09/13 19:04:44 +0000 "Influences", my first marimba concerto. I wrote it for the exams of my so called "Music +" programme I followed on my previous school. I received an A, or in dutch grades, a 9.5, the best ending I could have hoped for to a very joyful and unforgettable time on that school, known as the Meander College Zwolle. The Concerto is divided into 3 parts. All parts representing a certain influence, hence the title. Part 1 makes use of the chromatic scale, part 2 makes use of the pentatonic scale, and lastly part 3 is based on harmonics. The marimba (and glockenspiel) is accompanied by; or a string quartet consisting of a violin, a viola and two cello's, or a full fledged string ensemble. The piece is as much challenging for all players as accessible for the audience. Both the Marimba player as the strings players can exhibit their musicality and technique trough this piece. I very much hope you enjoy!
