DEEP CONCEPT BRAZIL INTERVIEW
DCB: So Nhan, please introduce yourself briefly.
Hello DCB, my name is Nhan Solo, I am vietnamese and head of Mother Recordings, a House label based in Berlin. I like good food, FB Bayern Munich, sun, surfing and House music.
DCB: We noticed that you came from hip hop culture, what attracted you in the House music?
Yes, you´re right. I fell in love with House music in the early 2000s. The feeling for house music was always there: this sense of being part of a collective with moral values that transcend a mere look or taste. It's all about family, and looking out for each that I learned in my younger days as a skateboarder that I rediscovered in the House movement again. Musical wise I also see a big similarity, for me House music is an organic progression of Hip Hop pitched to 100+ BPM with Funk and Soul samples twitched into loops.
DCB: What made you turn DJ and Producer?
Fame, money and girls! No, I am joking the love to the music of course.
DCB: The beginning of a career of any artist isn´t easy. What message would you leave for anyone who is starting a career as a DJ and Producer?
Well, I would propose anyone to do it just fun and the love. You cannot aim or control a career as a famous DJ or producer. If it is your destiny it will come step by step anyway. I believe that everything that is done with passion and a true sense of sincerity will always find its way.
DCB: About your releases, which of them has the major affect?
I love all my releases, I would never release something when I am not 200% behind it.
But the track with the most impact was „Easy“ on Mother Recordings. I was lucky cause the Diynamic posse supported it a lot and Adriatique also did an amazing remix of my track. Actually Defected In The House (IND), Ministry of Sound (OZ) and New State Music (UK) will also be re-releasing „Easy“ in the next months.
DCB: How do you deal with the exhausting and tedious process of musical creation.
Personally I always see it as a refreshing routine to work in the studio. It´s a nice variety to my office and label business. It brings colour in my daily life. I compare producing with cooking. You have your basic spices and your main ingredient. In our case the theme, the idea or a sample. From there on you build and create a core loop for the main part of the track and then gradually adding all the other elements. But it never sounds or tastes the same. For me it´s important trying not too sound too dark or introverted cause I'm quite the positive thinking guy.
DCB: What do you expect from your first tour outside Europe, and specifically here in Brazil?
Ooooh yeeeah, I am super delighted, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and of course Florianópolis, the mecca for all surfers. Caipirinha, surf, sun sea - what else could you ask for.
DCB: The Deep-House has shown actually came to stay, what is your opinion about the Deep House over the World?
Are you sure? I think it becomes bigger and bigger, or not? You can hear Deep House everywhere, in fancy commercials, morning radioshows, stupid Telenovelas even by the cleaning woman while she is doing vacuum. But in my opinion, I think it´s a very positive development. For example it gives me the opportunity to be invited by you guys, to travel and to be surrounded by interesting and like-minded people.
DCB: What can not miss in a gig to be special?
Smiling people and the magical moment when crowd and DJ surf on the same wave. Did I forgot something.....? ;)
DCB: Surprises, projects for 2013?
At the moment my main focus is on Mother Recordings. It is an exciting experience and the feedback is incredibly positive so far. So I guess we'll just ride it out with more 12" + digital releases and the planning of our first year anniversary compilation with our core artists for may 2013. My upcoming EP on Stranjjur is in the pipeline as well, which will be released beginning of april. Yes, it feels pretty good at the moment. I am also super happy to be part of Jackmode Agency from now on. They are doing an amazing booking job.
DCB: Thank you, we and Brazil are looking forward to you. A last word to your fans?
Thank you for this interview. It was an honour. I’m a big fan of yours as well. Go on like this. And huge hugs to my fans for the big support so far. We´re gonna see us all all in Brazil!
