Naveen G - Live at Output with John Digweed [April 2016] by Naveen G

I was at first hesitant to post this recording, for fear of being too singular in my recent set postings, but i changed my mind as i think it represents a good closure of the events of the past few months. This set from Output was a far different affair than the last few, having returned to a slow methodical pace, in order to let John fully explore over his subsequent 5 hour set(!). Opening dj sets are odd things that can be plodding and boring on one extreme and too much, too soon on the other extreme. Toeing the fine line of maintaining tension takes lots of preparation, digging for those odd musical gems and most of all, restraint in front of a crowd that is almost always looking for something with more energy than what you're playing. While often called a thankless job, I think as the headliner DJs return to playing longer sets, the effects will become more tangible or hopefully appreciated by all (and not just the old heads). I've learned a lot from playing and conversing with Diggers the last few times as well as contributing my episode of Transitions and now its time to move on to other little projects. Until the next time he rolls through town, that is. Utmost respect for the man, he's smashed it every time i've seen him the last few months. And we can only hope he airs some of the Output set on Transitions in the next few months as he was in top form.
