西村直記 Naoki Nishimura Matsuyama-shi Profile Naoki Nishimura, composer, performer on synthesizers Born in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture in 1949.Graduate of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Active as composer of music for television commercial films before returning to his birthplace and becoming a lecturer of a special school of music at the Faculty of Education, Ehime University (from April 1982 to March 1990). Currently runs his studio in the former Hatayama middle and primary school of Aki, Kochi Prefecture, where he engages in composing music related to “Impressive Children’s Songs,” TV and motion picture soundtracks, etc. As an editor of soundtracks of animated productions concerned with preservation of the environment, he has worked on “Mother ―the Last Girl ‘Eve’,”“One copy of a photograph” on Fuji TV, a UNESCO video “World Inheritance,”and theme songs of soundtracks. In 1987,he composed a series of 90 compositions covering his pilgrimage to 88 places in Shikoku that formed the “Pilgrimage Shrines Suite”;composed the series“The World of Misuzu Kaneko,”“Peace”and “Adrift,”which conveyed messages of peace;and composed a CD on “Space Pilgrimage” which included his performance before for the Pope in Rome, as well as many other special venues worldwide. In 1999 he was in charge of the NHK music “Travels of the Soul―88 Shrines of Shikoku,” which became a 4-CD set and 4-DVD set on the market. Visiting Hiroshima, Berlin, Pearl Harbor, and other cities which were previously the sites of world disasters; and composing and performing requiems musical prayers for peace during these trips and making his pilgrimages his life’s work, he has so far completed visits to 87 places around the world, In September at the “Unified Observatory” in the suburbs of Seoul, he is made his 88th performance which was the end of his world “pilgrimage” of concerts, 88 Places of Peace Pilgrimage Naoki Nishimura held 88 peace Pilgrimage concerts all over the world including the Vatican where he was granted an audience with Pope John Paul Ⅱ.
