The band invites friends, guests, and by-passers to join them in playing everything from New Orleans-style jazz and gospel, blues, country, and jug band tunes. They fill the neighborhood with their lively, energetic, and passionate music. The Capitol Hillbillies have performed together for decades and maintain close ties to the Capitol Hill area. In fact, band leader Joel Bailes is commonly spotted throughout the weekend rolling his full-size upright piano on wheels around the neighborhood from the National Mall through Eastern Market, as he transports his instrument from gig to gig. mIi had the opportunity to listen to the Capitol Hillbillies and guests jam outside of Riverby one Sunday in September previous to interviewing Joel Bailes and Tom Cox, the band's bass player. Their story and music is true inspiration. Learn more at www.musicisinspiration.com.
