While Fragrant Grasses Rooted In (2018) by MuseMelpomene published on 2018-05-22T05:32:49Z "Sunset, while fragrant grasses rooted in, stranding my aimless canoe." I composed this piece as a reflection on (or a self reflection after reading) Sky-Shading Apricot Blossoms, an ancient Chinese Song Ci (a poetic genre) dedicated to a distant beloved written in the 16th century. I subtly alluded to the sweetness of the original melody of the poem as a psychological focus in the middle and at the end of my piece, as a relief of acoustic and emotional intensity. On the structure, my work is influenced by the narrative characteristics of Song Ci and Pipa techniques, a typical accompaniment instrument of this genre. On the expressive content, I attempted to interpret the complicated emotion of the quote. During the compositional process, I frequently walked into the nature to experience the messages of spring, imagining how the author perceived these scenes metaphorically, and if I were him, what would I reveal to a distant beloved through the logic of music?
