AFTER MOST OF MY MEDITATION STUDENTS & MOST PEOPLE I'VE TURNED ON TO MEDITATION HAVE HARASSED ME TO RECORD A GUIDED MEDITATION, I'VE FINALLY GIVEN IN. I ALWAYS TOLD THEM TO LEARN THIS MEDITATION WITHOUT ME, SO AS NOT TO BE LAZY, BUT I NOW THINK IT'S TIME TO SHARE THIS WITH AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.
BEFORE USING THIS GUIDED MEDITATION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTION, SO AS TO BE FULLY AWARE OF HOW & WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO DO.
WESTERN STYLE MEDITATION TECHNIQUE MAY 2012
I want to share with you this technique of Meditation that I use, which I find works really well in conjunction with living in today's modern western world. I've tried to make these instructions as simple as possible to make them easily understandable.
After listening to this & conducting the meditation a few times, I do encourage you to do this meditation yourself, without the use of this audio.
The purpose of meditation is to come to stillness of body & mind, to connect to a state of nothingness through concentration, to be without thought, to pause thought. By pausing thought you come completely into the moment & into direct contact with the Creative Intelligence of the Universe, the Absolute, the domain of the ideas. So, for the sake of why we use Meditation, which is to be in the moment without thought, we should now consider Meditation as being a "Pause", thus relieving it of any religious connotation. What you are about to learn to do is simply about pausing your conscious mind from all thought. Thoughts are usually about the problems of yesterday & the possible solutions of tomorrow & are a distraction from the moment, the place & time in which we really are. Yesterday is always gone & tomorrow never comes. However, we live our lives in the problems of the past & the possible solutions of the future, which are not always relevant to where we actually are now, as now is what is truly real, now is what is actually happening. Meditation brings you into the moment, helping us to overcome the transient & to rest in the Absolute.
WE THINK DURING EVERY MOMENT OF THE DAY & ALSO IN THE NIGHT WHILE WE'RE DREAMING, SO OUR MINDS NEVER GET A PAUSE OR BREAK FROM THOUGHTS, WHICH IS DAMAGING TO OUR WELL BEING. THIS IS WHY WE PRACTICE MEDITATION, TO STOP THOUGHT & TO CONNECT TWICE PER DAY, FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES TO DRINK A CUP OF COFFEE, 20 MINUTES (AFTER BRINGING YOU BODY TO STILLNESS)! IF WE CANNOT CONCENTRATE FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES TO DRINK A CUP OF COFFEE, THEN WE CANNOT PRETEND TO BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE CONCENTRATION.
This pause is best done as close to sunrise & sunset as possible, but more importantly, within the 1st hour of waking up to start your day & again in the 1st hour or so after finishing a day's work before you relax, whatever hours you may keep.
When we say that a person has presence, it's because we see that they are present in the moment & not absorbed by yesterday & tomorrow, having already made their decisions about yesterday & tomorrow, to allow themselves to be in the present. This is the real way to live & to get the absolute maximum from life.
Traditional Transcendental Meditation is Meditation via the use of a Mantra. A Mantra is a word or sound that you chant & concentrate on, that has relevance for you in your life. For example, Buddhist monks chant: "Om" (AUM) which is the Sound Vibration of the Universe. For this Meditation you are about to learn, I want you to not use the chanting of a Mantra (for now), as it doesn't work so well for 'some' that live in the western world & need to work creatively within our communities with our art etc., which is why this technique concentrates on the senses. Om is great if you want to sit on a mountain practicing Meditation for 16 hours a day & sleeping the other 8 hours a day, getting fed by the locals, as the word Om actually means God & chanting this sound is the most powerful & solid way to connect with the Absolute, but that's not the only reason why some of us are here. We're DJ's, photographers, producers, actors, artists & communicators. The arts are the expression & the influence on the evolution & development of the Human race. This meditation technique works by concentrating on your very own 5 God given senses & in doing so, you fine-tune your senses, making you more focused & fully aware of your surroundings.
Therefore this style of meditation is without use of a Mantra. Instead we concentrate on senses. The senses only work now. You cannot smell yesterday & you cannot hear tomorrow, so by concentrating on the 5 senses we can bring ourselves into the moment relieving ourselves of thought. Pure concentration on these senses but without thought about them, just concentrating on them, by feeling, smelling, tasting, seeing & hearing all without thought or judgment. Hearing, but simply listening & hearing without thought about what is being heard, only concentration on the sounds, not questioning the listening.
This PAUSE technique that you will now learn to do is very powerful and the best for us in the western world as on top of using this technique to achieve stillness, resting in the Absolute, which is the purpose of the pause, it also brings us into touch with our 5 senses. When this happens we feel, taste, smell, see & hear much better as we're now very aware of our senses, more focused & in the moment rather than being absorbed by distracting thoughts, which means we can complete our work in half the time as we're more tuned in to our senses.
With this meditation, we therefore start by bringing the body to stillness. The mind will not come to complete stillness if the body is unstill. Once the body is still we bring the mind to stillness. This we do by concentrating first on our weakest sense and then progress though the senses to our strongest sense. This way we become truly connected to our senses.
Touch is our weakest sense. Then next is Taste, then it's Smell, then it's Sight with Hearing being our strongest sense.
When we're completely in touch with all of our senses having concentrated on them for some time, we can then concentrate on the nothingness beyond the senses. This is the pause or the meditation & the connection to the Absolute.
Before we do that, we need to relax & get our bodies into the correct position. This position is relevant for lining up the Chakra points within our bodies, which run vertically up our bodies from our groin to the crown of our heads & beyond.
So, firstly, sit upright on a comfortable chair with your feet resting on the floor or, cross-legged on a cushion. Do not lean against the back of the chair; let your body support itself.
Your back must be upright, dead straight, aligning our Chakra points which will then give us a better connection to the Absolute. Imagine your spine being connected by a piece of string with the string going from the bottom vertebrae right up the spine & out of the top of your head. Imagine pulling the string from above your head to straighten your whole back & make your back as straight as possible. Your Chakras will then be completely in line.
Next, hold down your index fingers with your thumbs. This is to hold down ego as we point at people through this finger, ego comes through this finger.
The other 3 fingers should be straight. These 3 fingers represent the 3 Guna, Tamas (rest / ignorance), Ragas (movement) & Sattva (Truth) that are the 3 energy sources that make up the Human Spirit. All of these 3 things are important to us as they're a bit like the 3 primary colours, but for the Human Spirit. Holding these fingers outward is offering the Guna back to the Universe from where it comes.
With your hands in this position, rest them, palms up, on your knees.
Now roll your shoulders from forwards to backwards in a slow movement opening up your chest & Ethereal heart... in fact do this 3 times slowly almost like body popping opening up your chest.
Then bring your attention to your ethereal heart (your soul) in the centre of your chest & imagine it getting warm. Now imagine it getting warmer still & melting away the frostiness of the day.
Feel the energy from this slowly taking over your whole body from your toes to your head. This is the energy of life that makes your body work.
Observe this energy that is life permeating your whole body. Be aware of the Self as the Observer of this energy, illuminating the light of the mind. Also be aware that we cannot be that which we can observe!
FROM HERE YOU WILL NEED TO CLOSE YOUR EYES & KEEP THEM CLOSED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE MEDITATION SESSION!
Once you finish the meditation, you must thank the Universe for allowing you connect as all of the information herein, is Universal information & belongs to no one.
After practicing this meditation for weeks & months, you will find yourself becoming very powerful indeed. Do not attach yourself to this power as it is not yours, it is Universal. If you attach yourself, you will weaken the connection to the Absolute.
Enjoy this mediation, that will improve your spiritual, mental & physical health, as this will de-stress you completely & in the presence of no stress, you immune system will become much stronger, making you physically more healthy.
