Wal-Mart Song (Hate, Lies and Fear) raw version by Mr. Polgar published on 2018-07-10T15:23:27Z This song sprang to life as a response to the rise of the Tea Party movement as it stomped around the periphery of democracy, toting its guns and racking up hypocrisy after hypocrisy -- a coterie of mean-spirited, anti-democratic Koch-funded dopes whose "movement" is an astroturf operation at best. Really, the Tea Party is just the natural evolution of the modern racist Republican Party as it sheds any veneer of comity in its addiction to winning at any (and all) cost. Maybe one day I'll pick apart the thinly veiled references to John Roberts' bullshitting and Guantanamo and the co-opting of Jesus and the way the GOP dupes stupid white racists into propping up rich white racists no matter how much it hurts them, their families, their industries, their planet -- or the rest of us. Enjoy! Lyrics: The Wal-Mart Song (Hate, Lies and Fear) Everybody hear the call there’s a rally on the Mall We’re taking back America ’cos we don’t want to share it with ya Friends and countrymen lend your ears and load your guns We’ll take aim at our enemies that’s anyone who dares to disagree I know why you shop at Wal-Mart And why you conflate your bias with a bargain Jesus saves but you’re wasteful and you’re craven Spouting fear and lies and hate In your brutish game Everybody gather round we’ve got jackboots on the ground In lockstep with the Constitution trampling on evolution We’ve read the tea leaves and we know our founding fathers’ minds And if you dare step out of line there’s plenty of prison space in Caribbean climes No, you didn’t use the “N” word But that doesn’t mean that you are not a racist Jesus cries when he sees you waste your lives Spewing fear and hate and lies In his name For goodness sake why can’t you take responsibility You’ve got no shame, just shift the blame, but please don’t tread on me Reds, Blacks, Browns, Invisibles just wait ’til it gets physical We gild the laws then starve the states we build the walls then bar the gates We’re not just hypocrites we’re here, we’re fear, get used to it The balls and strikes are obvious when you’re out on the march with thugs like us I know why you shop at Wal-Mart You think God’s a-jingle-jangling in your pocket Jesus saves despite this fool crusade I can guess what he would say About your goon parade For goodness sake give me a break, you never even try And when you’ve got everything that you want, you’re still dissatisfied So you hate and fear and lie Everybody heed the call ’cos the writing’s on the wall They’ll overthrow the government but then that’s treason, isn’t it? They say they’re patriots oh, no they’re not, they’re idiots These second-fiddle minutemen their hour’s up let’s call time on them I know why you shop at Wal-Mart It’s an irony when life is cheap but living’s dear Jesus weeps at the company you keep And how easily you concede to hate, lies and fear Hate, lies and fear Hate, lies and fear Hate, lies and fear Genre Folk & Singer-Songwriter
